Brad Lander ousts Rep. Dan Goldman after left-wing challenge
In a decisive election outcome, Brad Lander successfully defeated incumbent Representative Dan Goldman in a congressional race that highlighted key progressive issues. Lander focused much of his campaign on immigration reform and vocal opposition to U.S. military aid to Israel, positions that differentiated him from Goldman.
Lander’s campaign received a significant boost early on with the endorsement of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, which helped solidify support among left-leaning voters. Meanwhile, Goldman, a former federal prosecutor known nationally for his role in leading the first impeachment of President Donald Trump in 2019, maintained a position more supportive of Israel during the election. Goldman, who comes from the Levi Strauss family, had narrowly won his seat in 2022, making his position vulnerable to progressive challengers.
This electoral result is expected to shift New York's congressional delegation further to the left, reflecting growing influence of progressive voices within the city's political landscape.
